Welcome to the Pottery Spottery!

At this point, you have probably selected your item, placed it on your tray, and set your towel to the side. Shortly, a staff member will give you a brief introduction. If you want to get a head start, here are the high points:

  1. After we fire your creation, the paints will look very different from how they come out of the bottles. You can see how each color will look after firing by looking at the tiles on the wall. Those tiles also show how the number of coats matters. The large tiles show you how one, two, and three coats will look. We recommend using three layers for most purposes. Don't worry, the paint dries fast so you don't have to wait long!

  2. To get started, grab a palette and dab paint onto the circles. For most objects you need less paint than you think, about a pea-sized amount. Remember, you can always get more paint! We at the Pottery Spottery are committed to minimizing the amount of waste paint that goes into the waste stream.

  3. Write down the number of the paint you chose on the left side of the palette. Then when you go back for more, you'll know which bottle to grab!

  4. We suggest you do the background color first, and paint the smaller touches, such as ears, feet, and beaks later. Get the big stuff out of the way!

  5. Brushes and other tools are located near the paint bottles. If you need help with using them or with technique, flag down a staff member.

  6. When you are done, a staff member will register your creation. You'll get a notification when it is fired and ready for pickup.

  7. If you wish, tap on the Exit disk before you leave, and THANK YOU for coming to The Pottery Spottery!
